Picture
I  have been painting  now for several years and like many others I was initially
influenced by the  impressionist movement in Europe as well as Canada’s own
Group of Seven & Tom Thomson.  Their use of bold colour and texture always
elicited strong  emotions and a desire to make my own mark as an artist.  I have
always been  drawn specifically to oil painting as a medium.  I love the texture
of the oil  paint when applied to the canvas and how it can be manipulated.  I
use lots of  paint in pure rich tones, laying colour upon colour in an effort to
capture the  beauty of a landscape scene.

Growing  up on Salt  Spring Island I gained an appreciation for our breathtaking coastal
vistas and  it’s those coastal scenes that first inspired my love of painting landscapes.  Additionally I was very taken by the landscapes in Provence
France during  recent visits to that country side.  The hill top villages, ochre
hills and  olive groves are beautiful and provide endless subject matter to
paint and  enjoy!
